Everitt Laboratory

Champaign-Urbana, Illinois

The renovation of this building transforms the historic four-story Everitt Electrical and Computing Engineering Laboratory into a new home for the Department of Bioengineering. The 124,000 square-foot building includes classrooms and instructional laboratories for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as research labs and support space for 14 research and six computational teams.

The ground floor is home to the Jump Simulation Center, which trains medical students in various settings, including an operating room, ICU, and hospital or clinic patient room. It also includes faculty research labs that support bioengineering research. A vivarium was also planned for the ground floor, but was not part of the initial build-out. Cell and tissue instructional labs on the 3rd floor give Bioengineering students the practical skills needed to pursue careers in the fields of tissue engineering, biofabrication, and genetic engineering.
